Search Engine Optimization could talk, it would probably scream by now. The reason is simple: It has taken a lot of flak from critiques and skeptics who don’t believe in what it can do for businesses. Some say it’s a form of black magic you can use online; others say it’s a common practice of geeky “thugs” with no morals.

Some reasons have become so absurd it’s not even worth mentioning, but one thing you should never say is that they DON’T WORK. Believe it or not, they do. And they can be one of the best things that will ever happen to your business.

What is SEO? In its simplest term, SEO (or Search Engine Optimization) has only one goal to make your website rank higher than the other websites on the internet. Suppose you’re looking for companies who sell the plant, Siam Aurora. You type “Siam Aurora plant” on the Google search box and voila: along comes 2,000,876 websites related to the plant. Now, if the searcher starts on the first page, how long do you think it will take before he stops searching? Probably, around seven pages, or maybe the 35th page if they have eyes of steel. However, the real question begins: What happens to the rest of the 2,000,841 then? Nothing. They all go down the drain.

Of course, this won’t be a problem if your company’s website can be seen on the first or third pages; however, the possibility of being seen dwindles after the next succeeding ones. So the moral of the story here is to make sure your site ranks on the first couple of pages, because you’ll have a better likelihood of being seen by people. The best way to do this is by using SEO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JD55e5h5JM

Think of it this way: around 30.4% of the global population are internet users; which is around 2,110,000. Google gets an estimated 2,262,000 searches everyday. Now, let’s say you’re a company that sells Siam Auroras. If your business can get only 2% of this internet population, that would be a whopping 42,200 customers already. And if there are around .05% of searches for Siam Auroras everyday, you’ll be getting around 1,131 qualified prospects for your business each and everyday. However, you’re on the 7,994th page… can you see the logic now?

SEO will do what it does best: to help your site move from that 7,994th page to the top five to ten pages. There, your website will be highly visible, which increases your chances of being seen by your target market. And if they can see you, the possibilities of getting them as customers will definitely increase tenfold.

A word for the wise: before you decide to hire an SEO expert to do your job, make sure they know what they’re doing. Many people claim to be SEO’s when in fact, they’re not. Always choose wisely—and you’ll soon realize how optimizing your website can help your business grow to its fullest potential.

Over the last few weeks we have set-up a YouTube channel to see what all the fuss is about and at the same time to get a little bit of a understanding of what optionality are there for a YouTubers.

Anyone can create a YouTube channel the limited on the video time and file size are around 15m and a max of 2gb, this can easy be overcome if your videos are bigger or longer by verifying your contact details with YouTube. To do this you will need to do a mobile or landmine confirmation with YouTube it will take 4min and then you can upload over 30min and a max of 20gb.

If you are thinking about start a channel to make loads of money think again, before you can add ads to you YouTube channel you need to apply to join the Youtube Partnership Program.

To qualify for Youtube Partnership Program you need to be able to show a high volume of video view to be accepted its around the 10k mark.

What make a good YouTube channel

To make a good YouTube channel you will need to gain subscribers here are a few musts:

Quality over quantity

Make sure your content has a demand

Dont offend others

Make notes on what you are going to talk about before you start your videos

Listen back to your videos this will help you improve your commentary

We have conclude that for the channel to work you must be yourself and don’t copy other channels. If people like the way you come across and they are interested in you content they will follow you.

To give you some idea on how much money can be generated from a single videos he is a example

This video is now the 8th most viewed all time, with close to 500 million views. If you exclude commercial videos this is the most viewed one. And how much money did the parents make by uploading it?

They didn’t reveal the exact number, but they said it was more than £110,000. The video is 57 seconds and was recorded with a basic camera

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

This shows that the videos don’t have to be 100% in video quality but they need to be 100% in video content. We are not suggesting you will have so much luck with your videos as this one, the reality is its hard work and if you keep making videos you will improve over time and learn something about yourself at the same time like the words you say often.

Good luck happy YouTubing

Facebook is not the first place you would think to go for SEO advice. However, the social media giant is looking to change that in the next few months. With the help of a company called Distilled, an online marketing agency, Facebook launched a new video that provides users tips on how to optimize their Facebook pages.

The video is aimed more at business owners, but it’s the first video Facebook has released providing users with this type of advice for optimizing their Facebook pages for search engines no its a good step.

The video can be found here Facebook

We know one thing for sure Distilled have a massive project ahead, im sure this will be running for the next few years. I have been searching the internet (Google) i have only ever found my own Facebook page in the search engine. Facebook does not seem to rank anywhere for 99% of the search terms. As Google controls the internet it does make you think “is Google dropping then from the search?”.

After all im sure Google want to push its own social network Google+1 in the top search results. In the next few week Google will be rolling out a new search result, this will display Google+1 search results just above the ads in Google search its live now in parts of the US.

Here are the top 5 online payment systems for accepting payments on the Web. While many of the companies on this list have been available to online merchants for years, many are also now getting into new areas of online payments such as social commerce and in store online card reader systems.

PayPal has been put at the top of the list for a few reasons although its not the cheapest payment gateway to go for its the one that is used by a high percentage of oneline website, also the majority of consumers have a PayPal account because of the likes of Ebay. This makes the consumer feel secure when making payments as they have heard of the gateway before.

1. PayPal

PayPal is the world’s most widely used payment acquirer, processing over $4 billion in payments in 2011. PayPal payments are made using a user’s existing account or with a credit card. Money can be sent directly to an email address, thus prompting the users to sign up for a new PayPal account. In addition to taking payments, PayPal also allows its users to send money through the service, which is a feature that only a few payment solutions provide.

Pricing: PayPal takes 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction and has no setup or monthly fees.

2. Google Checkout

Google Checkout is Google’s answer to PayPal. Google Checkout allows users to pay for goods and services through an account connected to their Google profile. The major benefit that Google Checkout has over the competition is that millions of Internet users use Google for other services, making a purchase through Checkout a simpler process.

Pricing: Google Checkout fees start at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for sales less than $3,000. The percentage they take goes down depending on monthly sales volume. Source: Google Checkout fees

3. Amazon Payments

Amazon Payments allows its users to receive money using its API (and to send money out via ACH).

Pricing: Amazon Payments fees start at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for payments over $10 (the percentage they take is less for larger transactions). For payments under $10, the fee is 5.0% + $0.05 per transaction.
4. Dwolla

Dwolla is a direct competitor to PayPal. One of the newcomers in the third-party payments space, the company is processing over $1 million per day. Setting up Dwolla payments is similar to PayPal, although Dwolla doesn’t have the same name recognition as their competition.

Pricing: There are no fees for transactions less than $10. For transactions over $10, Dwolla charges $0.25 per transaction. Source: Dwolla fees

5. Stripe

Stripe provides an excellent payment solution for web developers who would like to integrate a payment system into their projects using Stripe’s robust API. By bypassing the traditional sign up process, Stripe acts as a merchant account for its providers, handling all PCI compliance and merchant approvals.

Pricing: Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction with no setup or monthly fees. Source: Stripe: pricing

There are plenty of online payment systems out there that you can use to conduct e-commerce activities. Choose one that’s in line with your business objectives.

As soon as you have your domain name and web hosting services set up, you can begin on the most exciting part of starting a website, web design. While admittedly not everyone has the proper skills, knowledge and training to create good website in the shortest time possible, there are a few tricks of the trade that can be beneficial and will lessen the cost of having to hire professional web designers.

Adobe Dreamweaver templates are generic structures that can be used for any website in the virtual world. These templates function like the primer paint in a house: you apply it then make it better-looking and more personalized by adding details that will make your website more attractive and in the bigger sense, more competitive. Dreamweaver templates are in the .DWT format, are simple enough to use and are really flexible. You can use more than one Dreamweaver template for a site, like for different sections or pages.

Templates streamline a website, making it look more consistent and neater, especially if your website is the kind that has a lot of content. Nothing turns internet browsers off more than cluttered-looking, dizzying websites that seem to take a lot of time and effort to navigate through. Dreamweaver templates allow you to control what’s on your website, giving it a unified and with the right lay-out, an efficient and manageable “look.”
Adobe Dreamweaver is currently one of the most popular web design tools, due to the ease with which it can be applied. Even beginners can quickly learn to use this. In addition, Dreamweaver templates are always being updated and upgraded in keeping with technological advances, so that users won’t feel like they’re stuck with the analog in a digital world. The process is simple enough: using the Adobe Dreamweaver CS6, design your website employing the templates available but modifying them to suit your preferences then apply the template to your web pages. You can even edit certain areas if you wish. Another good thing about Dreamweaver is that you can immediately make changes to your initial template and save it. All of the web pages automatically update to accommodate the revisions so you won’t have to make painstaking modifications to each area of your website.

Web developers also like the fact that with Dreamweaver, the design and code are separated from the content for pages that make use of the templates. This is excellent, as it means non-editable parts of the website cannot be messed with and changes in content can be made effectively at any time without fear of affecting the actual lay-out. With a bit of practice, you can not only use Adobe Dreamweaver to begin your website, you’ll be able to maintain it yourself as well.

Everyone may agree that indeed, you cannot learn everything at school. This has been proven true today more than ever. Over the Internet, a lot of experts in their respective niches share their knowledge and expertise via online tutorials like YouTube. You may be one of those who rely on tutorials, articles and videos. However, not everything can be learned through the tutorials being published all over the internet.

Photoshop is one of the programs that a lot of people wish to learn about and become an expert in. This is why there are lots of Photoshop tutorials that may be found on the internet. But, is there anything that these Photoshop tutorials cannot teach you? Of course there are. Below is a list of Photoshop essentials that tutorials most likely fail to teach.

The theory of design

There are a lot of designers who undoubtedly know how to use the Photoshop program. However, there are some who do not know the secret art behind various essential elements of design. For instance, some may not know how to appropriately juxtapose graphics and text while arranging every element of design – in a visually pleasing and at the same time, functional manner. A lot of visual and graphic designers get away with making mistakes on design theory because some clients do not know what to check for in the first place.

The theory of color

Most often than not, designers use colors depending on what they see as pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, the colors may make or break a design. On a psychological level, each color can set moods, evoke emotions, get attention and eventually, create a statement. The usage of wrong colors may make way for wrong impressions and meanings.

Typography

Typography is the juxtaposition of different fonts to make up a harmonious visual element. Visual and graphic design is not just about graphics. Texts – letters and figures that is – are also essential elements of design. Failure to learn how to properly play around these characters may destroy the overall design that you are trying to create. You may also trigger negative impressions among the spectators of your design.

It is safe to say that learning Photoshop through both formal and informal training can validate your knowledge and expertise on the field. Furthermore, consistently practicing your skills will eventually make you more efficient as a graphic designer.

What exactly is a domain name and why is it important? First of all, your domain name functions as the identifying resource of your website. Domain names are used by the Domain Name System (DNS) to help users navigate through the worldwide web and find your website easily. Each resource, as in every computer connected to the internet, has an IP address (Internet Protocol), like a specific address. However, these IP addresses are complicated and difficult to remember, so domain names are a better way for people to recall how and where to find your website.

The Domain Name System is hierarchical, meaning it comes in levels called sub-domains. For example, the .com or .net in a domain name is referred to as the top-level domain or the first-level. Codes that come after .com or .net which stand for countries, such as .uk for the United Kingdom still fall under this level. The actual “name” of the website, the words that come after ‘www’ are the second-level domains. These names are those that you can reserve or buy so that people can find and connect to your website. The third-level domains are generally for more specific addresses within the second-level domain.

One of the first steps in creating a website is domain name registration. This is to ensure that your domain name isn’t already in use by someone else, and for everyone to know that the name has been taken by you. This way, you have a unique, identifying address exclusively for your website. There are specific companies around the world that have the authority to grant and register your domain name. These are called domain registrars, and you will have to undergo due process if you want to get your domain name properly registered for public use. Domain registrars are responsible for helping you assess whether or not the domain name you want is available then looking for other possible names should your initial domain name be taken.

There are the bigger, more popular registrars that people regularly go to, such as GoDaddy. A lot of registrars merely offer new registrants a straight-up process but there are other, smaller domain registry companies that give their customers the option for add-on services such as web hosting, web design, live technical support and other similar packages upon registration. Straight-up registration is cheaper of course, for as low as $10 a year, but if you think you’ll need more assistance, you can go for a slightly higher registration rate that includes specialized services from the domain registrar. The thing to remember is to know your needs and have a working budget; if you think you don’t need any additional services, you can merely go for simple registration and get someone else to handle the other aspects of your website for you when the need arises. Or you can compute the cost of availing of a domain registrar’s services compared to hiring extra assistance in the long run. Whatever you decide, make sure to do a bit of background research first and compare domain registrar companies so that you can make an informed decision.

When it comes down to picking a new domain name there are 3 options you need to take in to account the chooses are:

Pick you own company name for example www.creatingconcepts.co.uk this looks great but there are down sides on the SEO part

option two is add a keyword in with your company name for example www.creatingconcepts-webdesign.co.uk this will help the search engine understand what your company is about

The finial option would be go for a exact match if its available for you product www.webdesign.co.uk the chances are 99% of the types of domain have gone

The conclusion is the best options is buy one and two, this way you can put www.creatingconcepts.co.uk on all you documents and emails and redirect it to www.creatingconcepts-webdesign.co.uk this way you have your keyword and the nice looking domain.

301 Redirects – how they work and the reason for using

5 reasons to have your XML Sitemap updated often

Does your web server location affect your SEO score

What is a canonical link and how it can help with duplicate…

Choose the best web hosting service not the cheapest

After the Google Panda update we (Creating Concepts) dropped out of search for the keyword web design from page 3 to page 30!. After spending hours of time looking into why this has happened i was studding our home page and notice the text slider on the home page had a fixed Wight of 3500px to the left of the page. Google was seeing this as hidden text and moved out of our spot.

We have created a new text carrier that does not specify wight using divs. Below is the webmaster report showing the drop and the 2 week penalty

Webmaster Report

Page 1 for “web design”

I have also notice on page one for web design Creare web design had moved down to the bottom of the page after the

this is more than anyone on this page. On day 2 of the pander update they started doing PPC as they were now at the bottom of the page.

The First change they made was there description, i felt like sending them a email saying “LOOK AT YOU TEXT SLIDER” after 2 weeks they removed the slider and moved up 3 places.

It seems that hidden text is a big no no. One more observation, i looking at Total Creation (on page one for “web design”) they have mentioned the word “design” 180 times, so looks like Google is not penalising for keywords stuffing like they said they would.
